Communication 37

I, the wilderness

So I have become the wilderness,
decaying yet still abundant
I will seed the next of me
and spread as far as the eye can see
I have spent centuries lost upon the five dales,
you will feel me with you at Monsal Head and the rocky tors
rigorously formed through years of weathering,
I’m still a sight to see just before dawn
or when you are standing face to the wind,
so I have become the wilderness
yours and everyone alone
I find it hard to miss you
knowing one day you too will rest with me
among the dark peaks and limestone.
