premonitions
you’ve never seen your father’s face,
touched his skin
allowed yourself to love you
the same way you loved him,
you’ve never heard your mother’s voice
or taken such advice,
to let her teach you about living
your own life,
they’re just memories
that have never been,
even though they seem real
they’re not there to feel,
it’s not the same
when you can’t remember a name,
feel the heat from their skin,
keep their memory within.
