Hormonal Warship
do you remember when
we’d chase the wind?
never really caring
about anything,
we promised to be
friends right till the end
an unspoken vow to defend,
paddling pools
hosepipe fountains,
summer days climbing
make-believe mountains,
the call of the wild
were the woods
behind our house,
scaling the trees,
bloodied knees,
simplicity
in all its charms,
life in its infancy was
a reckless call to arms,
a hacky sack, a rugby ball,
playing the fool
trying to act cool,
smoking hand rolled
cigarettes whilst
bunking off school,
graffitiing the classrooms
swigging cider laced
with mushrooms,
it was such a beautiful infusion
tripping the light illusion,
we’d crumple up
our homework
to use as fuel for fire,
the more we drank
we’d slowly get higher,
we didn’t give a shit about
what we were ingesting
it was the only way to make
Geography interesting,
as puberty popped inside us
we felt our hearts
for the very first time,
a rabbit in the headlights
caught in loves firing line,
sweaty palms,
on the edge of panic
sinking undignified
like the dreaded Titanic,
as I lent in cautiously
fumbling a kiss,
I completely missed her lips,
it was clear this chick
was shooting from the hip,
I was staggering seasick
on the deck of a hormonal
warship … Man Overboard !!
