Restless Souls
we are restless souls
alienated by our reluctancy
to mix with fools,
self-appointed Oracles
of a ‘less is more’ survival,
I used to walk miles
to see you because
I couldn’t afford the bus fare,
we’d share a single bed
in a squat with a single
Calor gas heater
and a broken window,
we were frayed,
with our love
dragged across the coals
but me and you
we’re restless souls
and we’ll never part,
even when we have
to say goodbye forever,
because
forever ain’t so long
and when I welcomely
pass on, I’ll meet you
on the broad way
where you missed your bus,
and our shoulders brushed
as I was walking off
a hangover of the century,
it was meant to be,
you and me
because we
are restless souls
