All Summer Long
city heat
leaky
freezers
gasping,
sidewalk
deserts
burning,
scantly
dressed
pilgrims
pay homage
to secluded
green spaces
city dwellers
worship
such places,
fire hydrant wars,
crushing the ice
before it thaws,
we’ve got to
cool things down
cycling the town
shirtless,
shoeless
aimlessly
racing youth,
we’ll live forever!
I know we will!
800-meter sprints
to the ice cream van,
gobstopper thrills,
sucking until
your cheeks ached,
chewing until
your teeth break
it’s a BMX race
30 laps around
the block with
only 5 pit stops,
water pistol fights,
calling it a night
as the streetlights
turn on, it’s the
same day everyday
all summer long
