paralysed with fear by the word 

“Cheers” 

it’s a bullet point celebration 

a no comma abbreviation,

what am I supposed to do

when I say “Cheers” to you?

campaign for world peace?

or talk explicitly about 

my daughters law degree,

or boast about 

my sons straight A GCSE’s

or the fact I’m forcing them

into a person they don’t want to be,

that I live through them

and they don’t live through me,

so let me say “Cheers” to the fear

that I might be looked upon

as a failure amongst my piers
