96 Parkway
the ambience
on the Parkway
electrified me,
back in the day
we were all part
of the parade,
the music makers,
the risk takers,
merging scenes
humanism,
a world without screens
“you’re oozing cool dude,
those track lines
on your ankles and arms
are looking fine and dandy”
what ya shooting?
some cheap heroin with popping candy?
it’s all so punk rock up by Camden Lock
check out the cool cat with the Mohawk,
self-taught mutilation hangs from
his ears and nose,
tattoos sag on aging skin
“who ya kidding”
you know the scene’s dead right?
it faded years ago,
if you weren’t there
you’d never know,
the old crowd grew up
and moved on,
the music and those
it attracted are long gone,
venues are boarded up,
the old dives gentrified,
here’s a word to the wise
run for your lives!!
Camden Town shot its sacred cow
now it’s just junkies
passed out by the canal
whilst young gen Z hipsters
try to recreate "the good ole days"
and the character it displayed
sadly, it ain’t ever coming back
96 Parkway,
the sounds of the times,
the times they reflect
generation X
at its best
